Surfers
Against Sewage are a UK based, non-profit making organization campaigning for an
end to the discharge of raw and partially treated sewage and toxic waste, into
our oceans and inland waters. Clean beaches and rivers are a resource vital to
the economy and well-being of any nation. Sewage-free coastal and inland waters
mean recreational water-users can practice their sports in a clean, safe
environment, without fear of getting ill.
For the last 10 years, SAS have been focusing their attention on the coastline
and rivers of the UK. In the last few months of 1999 the UK Government agreed an
£8.5 billion spend on cleaning up the aquatic environment. THE PRESSURE IS
WORKING!
SAS have only been able to work effectively as a pressure group with the help
and support of our members and sponsors. We still need your help, the pressure
must continue. The UK is on its' way to losing its' "Dirty Man of
Europe" tag, but we have to drive the improvements in. The issue of sewage
pollution must be kept high on the public agenda, we can only do this with the
funds that our members and sponsors provide.

If
you haven't already, do take a look through this site, the achievements of SAS
over the last 10 years speak for themselves. The staff and volunteers working
for the organization all have a clear goal, to make a difference and do our bit
to clean-up our aquatic environment.
REGIONAL
ACTIVITIES
Do you feel like you would like to see more of SAS in your area, do you have any
time to make that happen?
SAS are always looking for people to represent us in their region and would love
to hear from you if you have some time to give, whether you can spare a few
hours or a few days in your week.
There are already some regional groups of SAS up and running around the UK,
contact details are below. In addition to the groups, there are also individuals
who are representing SAS in their sport or in their region. Regional groups do
everything from arranging demo's and media work in their area, to organizing
events to raise awareness and funds, all with guidance from the Headquarters.
Regional representatives working alone may also do media and events work but
have more of a role raising awareness of SAS amongst the general public, by
recruiting members through leaflet distribution at events and retail outlets or
through giving talks. Any new ways you can think of to spread the message and to
raise awareness amongst people that may not know about SAS, let us know.
If you are interested in becoming a rep or forming a regional group then give us
a call at the office on (01872) 553001 or email us.
